The Story Behind Someone Like You

Ground Zero

The saddest thing is realizing that the very thing you considered to be everything means nothing anymore. No acknowledgement, no recognition, no nothing.

One Last Month

(pic taken from PostSecrets)

An Apple A Day Keeps the Bad Vibes Away

It is a sad day as the genius known at Steve Jobs died a few months after shocking the world with his resignation from Apple. It was such a short, yet worthwhile existence on earth. Most of my background on Mr. Jobs came from MTB who knew him like a mentor, if not an old friend. I would remember the look of admiration from MTB’s face as he animatedly talked about the struggles, successes and strength that defined Mr. Jobs. Knowing how few men MTB admires (and having full support and belief in MTB’s choice of heroes) I had an automatic liking for the guy despite my lack of interest in anything related to technology.

Mr. Jobs was an example of how monumental a man with a purpose can accomplish. He changed the way people identify with something as innocuous as an APPLE— from a fruit to a city to, as Steve Jobs ingeniously molded the world to see, the symbol of our generation.

I don’t know how other people’s lives were affected by Mr. Jobs's brilliance—I don’t want to pretend that I know him more than I actually do. So let me just tell how he changed my life and that is by making my music, the type that can seldom be heard anywhere else, available to me 24/7. If you are an avid reader of my blog, you would know that one passion I am actually cognizant of is MUSIC. Everything that ever matters to me has a song that would remind me of that memory. Whether it’s the time when my cousins and I got stranded somewhere in Katipunan (Cold Summer Nights) back in the early 90’s, or summers spent in my aunt’s house (10 summers worth of Silverchair songs, Smashing Pumpkins, PNE, and other bands that exposed me to rock, grunge, indie music), my friendship with my high school friends (Deep Inside of You, Shimmer), college nights and school pains (J. Lo songs, Aimee Mann, and songs wondering what life is beyond the confines of college), Perk squad whoas and woes (Coldplay, Aint no Mountain High Enough, Fame, Total Eclipse of the Night), the first time I fell in love (Soraya, How Sweet it is and other happy singsong songs that I can no longer remember), the time when I was searching, pining, and finding the love of my life (Beatles, Orange and Lemons, 747, Dashboard, Kaytagal, Kailan, Built to Last, etc) and recently, my greatest heartbreak (Adele, The Script, Sara Bareilles, Sugarfree and almost all songs that MTB and I discussed, fought over, talked about and sang for 6 years)---- All these moments, whether they are magical, tragic or painful, have a soundtrack. To make the long story short, I have compiled phases and phrases of my life in a 32 gigabyte time capsule that is my iPod.

I cannot think of anything as ubiquitous during my tumultuous days than my trusty Ipod. Not that my friends are not there for me, they are. But in stillness of the night, during the pregnant moment between midnight and dawn when I feel most vulnerable, it is the melodramatic sound coming from my ipod that lulls me to sleep. It is the hum of Mumford and Sons that lifted my heart from despair, the solemn strumming of Switchfoot's guitar that rhythmically sways with my words of prayers to the Lord, and the poetry of Sara Bareilles that speaks what my tongue cannot verbalize. Listening to my iPod is a like caching the memories and feelings of a 27 year adventure, readily available when I need to heal and see how far I’ve gone.

I may not know Steve Jobs as well as the others or the details of how he changed the world. All I do know is how he changed my world, one mp3 at a time.

Thank you, Mr. Jobs, and may you rest in peace.

Last Time I Checked...

I was a living, breathing human being. My blood flows, my legs can stay vertical and my heart still beats. Thus, it is safe to say that despite all, I AM STILL ALIVE.

Praise be to God.

Kaboom.

Gonna Get Over You
Sara Bareilles

Goodbye
Should be sayin' that to you by now, shouldn't I?
Layin' down the law that I live by,
Though maybe next time

I've got a thick tongue,
Brimming with the words that go unsung
Simmer then I burn for someone,
A wrong one

And I tell myself to let the story end,
My heart will rest in someone else's hand
My 'why not me?' philosophy began
And I say

Ooh, how'm I gonna get over you?
I'll be alright, just not tonight
Someday, oh I wish you'd want me to stay
I'll be alright, just not tonight,
Someday

Maybe is a vicious little word that can slay me
Keep me when I'm hurting and make me,
Hang from your hands

Well, no more,
I won't beg to buy a shot at your back door
If I make it at the thought of you, what for?
It's not me anymore

And I'm not the girl that I intend to be,
I dare you darling, just you wait and see
But this time not for you but just for me,
And I say

Ooh, how'm I gonna get over you?
I'll be alright, just not tonight
Someday, oh I wish you'd want me to stay
I'll be alright, just not tonight, Someday (someday)

say it's coming soon,
Someday without you,
All I can do is get me past the ghost of you,
Wave goodbye to me,
won't say I'm sorry,
I'll be alright once I find the other side of someday

Ooh, how'm I gonna get over you?
I'll be alright, just not tonight
Someday, oh I wish you'd want me to stay
I'll be alright, just not tonight,
Someday.

Even the Signs Conspire

Sabi ng horoscope ko sa Yahoo:

Opening your heart to someone new doesn't always have to be a frightening experience. As long as you accept that whatever is meant to be will be, you can look at your revelation of affection as a truth you're stating, not as a risk you're taking. If you go for romance today, you'll be able to keep all of your expectations realistic and start a conversation with someone you are interested in, without feeling as though you're under too much pressure.

The Tres Relievers

I’ve spent most of the past months with my two best guy friends, Legolas* and James Franco* . They became one of my sounding boards during the time when I was crawling on the floor with depression (the others were the Perks, BFFs, Geejay and my beloved Sandy Bear). To say that they contributed to my new found happiness is an understatement. They are the reason why I am still sane.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many people never fully understand how the three of us became friends. We're from different teams, different ranks, and different personalities. To be honest, I can't even remember how we became this close. There are times when it's hard to put up with each other's topak and sabaw moments. And yes, at times, it takes all my patience to take in all their sermons. But at the end of the day, it was always their advice that I would eventually seek. They have learned to accept me for who I really am. They have even caught me at my worst--- the crazy, stupid, vulnerable, lovesick version of Anna Banana. Though their words may sometimes be hard to swallow (Sige na nga, most of the time), I don't ever feel like I'm being judged. In fact, their words are a testament of their concern and a catalyst to strengthen our bond.
Having these two as my close friends was like having a special key inside a guy’s head. The good thing about it is that I am given two different perspectives but only one conclusion (which is to move on). Legolas never fails to give me an insight into the typical “boyfriend” thoughts and intricacies. He explained to me the rationale why normal guys have preferences over their girlfriends’ wardrobe, which type of girl should be taken seriously, how guys cope with heartbreaks, and all that jazz. And he was also an instrument for my renewed spirituality. On the flip side is James Franco. It’s like talking to a male version of me, but with less drama, no BS, and no over analyzing. He voices out my inner thoughts, the same thoughts had I been thinking rationally and not letting my heart speak gibberish. Add to this is the fact that he has a very wide shoulder for me to cry on (and this I do to him, over and over). He may be one tough nut to crack, but once you get him to open up, you'd be surprised at what wisdom and kindness he has to offer.
In one service Legolas and I attended, it spoke of turning negative emotions into blessing. And I couldnt imagine a better example than my friendship with these two guys. As the saying goes, when God closes a door, he opens a window--- a french window, in fact (bilang mga higante lang sila pareho). JF and Legolas, I look forward to more food trips, sermons, and potential boyfriend harassments from you. wag lang sobra at baka hanggang pagtanda ko, alagain pa rin ako. Negatib.
Just This Once
...and never again to make patol.
You are as fake as your smile. and your fake hair color. and your fake, trying-to-be-perfect teeth. Simple, my (S)ass. If you want money and a life of luxury, earn it on your own.
I'm sorry but I'm allergic to social climbers and gold diggers.
Yun lang.
