A Moviegoer Who Eats Nightmares
ang pamilyang kumakain ng lupa.
the family who eats soil.
the most disturbing film i have ever seen.
last friday, i was so depressed because of our thesis so i waited for Tubby to finish her class in 161 and invited her for coffee. my other friends went home already so we got left behind. Because of boredom, we decided to go to gateway araneta instead. while waiting for a ride, we saw our friends Susy and Geno, Frodo and EIC. they invited us to watch this movie with them. Shempre, impulsive that we are, we agreed.
i thought the movie was some sort of an art film. well, it was.. i think. Its an experimental Film (not) directed by Khavn. seriously, this guy is either extremely brilliant or stark raving mad to produce such a movie.
the first two short films were kinda light. funny, even. the third film, MondoManila, was way too disturbing for my own good. i was cringing in my seat and i had to shut my eyes to spare me the gory details.
(after 4 days, i still shudder at the mere thought of this film)
the full length film, the Family Who Eats Soil is both funny and shocking. I wont try to be a genius or "malalim" pero i didnt get some parts of it.
the show ended with a mini concert by the Brockas, eccentric looking guys who plan to destroy our eardrums. the guitar riffs (which sounded like a fork being scraped against a blackboard) and the movie itself caused me to think we would never get out of the theater alive. Seriously, i thought they would slaughter us.
to summarize the film: too much gore. too much violence. too much sex.
but then again, So is OUR world.
Now, im really disturbed.

a Cold, January Evening: a date with Gen and Brad
You see? It’s a cycle.
its been so long since i had so much fun, i actually forgot how good it feels.
Today, i had the chance to go out and not think about pressing matters in my life as a student. Although not entirely true ( we brainstormed on techie stuff for STS), i was able to use the latter part of my day with a person i love. Yes, i went to see Brad Pitt. Actually, i watched his movie with one of my best friends, Samantha at Gateway Araneta. It was my first time to go there and i can say that it's really nice. i was surprised that its only 99 bucks. wow.. not bad eh?
ganito yun, i left prinsipe B's palace at around 5:15 because my "date" was around 6. I commuted my way to Cubao happily, not minding the growing ache in my feet because of my killer mules. Went i got there, she wasnt there yet... (what was i expecting? samantha to be on time? that's close to impossible) i went to the washroom to freshen up and to my surprise, there's a fee of 10 bucks. Good thing, the washroom's clean and complete with toiletries. When I left the washroom, she still wasn’t there. Reminded of the “planner deadline”, I went to look for Starbucks which is actually located outside the mall. Not in the mood to be perked up by caffeine, I opted for a hot chocolate. Yes, three more stickers to go.
When I finally went back to our meeting place, I found Samantha there. Thank God she’s here, I thought. We exchanged kisses and she recited her memorized apology, I could only heave a deep breath and forgive her again. What was I expecting? A miracle? Anyway, she made kwento about her “date” with Lucifer the night before. She went to his place! Aargh.. well, its ok. As long as they don’t do anything funny (or kinky), it doesn’t matter. I made kwento naman about my demented texter. Of course, she got disturbed (who wouldn’t?). After the movie (and after nth times of wiping drool off my cheeks because of brad’s yumminess), we went to grab dinner. Actually, its more of a coffee break before we go home. She has to leave early kasi nga she went home late (I mean early, as in early morning) from Lucifer’s place. WE bought our regular drink, caramel frap, coffee based. Still, I needed one more sticker. I summoned all my courage, swallowed my pride and asked the guy in front of me if he can do me the favor of filling my sticker book. I made sure he’s harmless (translation: fat, father-like, almost effeminate) guy so he wouldn’t think I was hitting on him. Yes! Finally, my sticker book was completely filled!
After a French Fries take out at Mc Donald’s, we took a Sex and the City walk outside, welcoming the cool breeze and the glam atmosphere. Of course, what’s a Samantha- Miranda reunion without a reminiscing of past loves? Eventually, after talking about it, I got depressed, something everyone should expect of me. While we were waiting for our “cab” to arrive (sex and the city-ish, pero truth is, Jeep lang ito), I gave her a pro’s and con’s of dating/falling in love with Lucifer. Again, umiral na naman ang pagiging Kontrabida ko. Finally, after 10 years (converted into Cubao time, that’s 45 minutes) we were able to get a ride. We went down in Anonas for my connecting flight (ahem) and I bade Samantha farewell.
My meeting with Samantha made me realize that Love does wonders for everyone, melting hearts and melting ice princesses. I’m reminded that even with a broken heart and an impossibility of being together, you can still move on and have fun. That's what samantha's been doing and it's what i'm failing to do. Thank God for someone like her... i can think of my problems (and my imaginary problems) as a venue for me to celebrate my "normalcy".
I arrived at my usual trike stop and waited for one to come. the place was deserted, not brightly lit, and the cold January breeze freezing my bones. Normally, paranoia and fear would have gripped me but amazingly, there i was, standing at the crossroad at 1130 pm... and i was happy.

An Insecurity the Size of Russia
Today, I am being eaten by my insecurity.
I have a gorgeous friend, Tubby and I envy her personality. She can get away with almost anything. She's a charmer, an actress, a public speaker, a star, and a friend to everybody. She's pretty too. i envy her.
I have a funny gay friend, Queer and i envy his confidence. He's running for magna cum laude, experienced having a boyfriend, can do silly things and get away with it, can act straight anytime he wants. He's good looking too. I envy him.
I have a sexy gay friend, ANime and i envy his discipline. He has flat abs, he doesnt binge, has control of his finances, can be active in everything other than academics but still pass with flying colors. He has a colorful lovelife too. I envy him.
I have a gigantic friend, Flamethrower and I envy her character. She can scare people and not feel guilty or scared of being hated, she has a fair skin and an outstanding height, she can afford to not go to class even when she's juggling 4 BA subjects simultaneously. She's witty, too. I envy her.
I have a talented friend, Mamba and I envy her brains. She can afford to be with us and get high grades, she can dance all night, every night, she can eat voraciously but not gain a single pound. She's nice, too. I envy her.
dont worry, i envy them but i certainly dont want to be like them. Sometimes my ego does a pumping scene. Inflated, deflated, inflated, deflated.
ooops, is that a hole?
pffft.

reality bites
it sucks that i dont have anything interesting to write about.
after the entire death threat hoopla, i was living a normal life (by normal, i meant uninteresting, pseudo- imaginary life). I saw my stalker more than twice this week and i'm proud to say that he didnt scare me anymore. (too bad dude, i have flamethrower as my friend. Now that is scary).
Now moving on...
i watched the series finale of my big fat obnoxious fiance, the first and last episode i was able to catch. I dont know but i think it was an ill- conceived show. I mean, lying to your parents flat out? that's evil. Though the intentions were noble (to help her family achieve its dreams), the object of contention (which is a million dollar) doesnt sit well with me. If i were in Randi's position, i wouldnt have accepted the ridiculous bet. i love my family and i wouldnt do anything to embarrass them. Even if its for a million, trillion or even a gazillion dollars, if that even exists. But that's just me...
aaargh! the Good Morning, Miami plot is killing me... not in a bad way, though. Well, Jake and Penny finally kissed and Dylan saw it. You see, i've been pining for the jake- penny love team from day 1. I just think its high time that jake realizes that Penny is the girl for him. She's funny, sarcastic, quirky, appreciative, and totally in love with him (obviously, this is more than a good morning, miami ranting). Jake has been blinded enough by his fondness for dylan that he doesnt see that the person who can give him the best is just right in front of him. He always uses penny as an outlet, a shock absorber, a confidante who listens intently to his stories of devotion and blind adoration. I can just imagine how Penny must have felt...
my favorite scene would have to be the part where Jake was doodling a "pro's and con's of dating Penny" on a piece of paper which Penny snatches from him as he tries in vain to hide it. Penny is immensely touched and flattered that Jake does Notice her in a different kind of way. When she reads the Con part of the paper, she looks terrible hurt when the only thing written on that portion is : she's not dylan.
JAke is able to pull it off my countering that statement by saying: yes, you're not dylan. you're Penny.
and they kissed...
aaaaaaw.. that was nice. The bad thing though is it wont last long. I dont know what series have against Bestfriend affairs, but it sucks not seeing a happily ever after for friends-turned-lovers. I mean duh? if you want reality, then that's reality, front and center. That's basically the story of my life, and others too. I just want, just once, a series/show/ movie where the guy chooses his best friend over the girl of his dreams.
well, enough of that. As i said, my life is uninteresting and maybe these opinions are just weaved fantasies of my piece of reality.

how to disappear completely?
nalolow- EQ ako.
for some unfathomable reason, i had this sudden urge to cry. bakit kaya? uhm, well... i know i shouldn't be lying in my own blog but, uhrm, i dont know.
kung kelan naman kasi 12 units na lang ako and 2 months shy of graduating, saka naman ako na-sad ng ganito... i should be prancing around, removed of the burden of a hectic social life, enjoying my single blessedness. unfortunately, im not. eeeeeeh kasi naman.. wala.
i guess the free time was converted to emptiness, plaguing my existence... reminding me of the things more important but lacking in my life. like what? you dare ask. uhm, like an intense commitment to serve (after my term in ecosoc ended, i vowed to have some quality time for myself and my family therefore not having enough time for org work), the inspiration and drive to write in my blog, peace of mind and as expected, Love.
i dont know if its the scene where i saw thoushallnotbenamed and beyonce comfortably wrapped in an embrace or the realization that i am one of the few people from high school who never had a serious relationship in college or the fact that i cant find somebody to comfort me during times like these. Whatever the reason is, or are, my so-called happiness is blown to smithereens. (well, at least for now)
i've been racking my brains for something interesting and happy to write but there seems to be a gap there. a case of mental block or a case of emotional distress? ah ewan.
Good thing im going out tom... yes, a movie date with samantha..now, that's a happy thought. before the rainbow, however, comes the rain. in this case, i still have to endure a brainstorming meeting with my groupmates in STS tom which i hate because my mind's tired from overthinking. ayoko na.
Sometimes i just want the earth to swallow me... but then again, with all my whining and bitching, i bet it would spit me back up. life is so unfair.

Ang Pagsapi ng Kaluluwa ni LA Lopez, da Original Trivia Boy
did you know that...
Seal and Heidi Klum are engaged?
Ryan Cabrera and Ashlee Simpson are back together?
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck broke up?
baa baa black sheep, twinkle twinkle little star and ABC have the same tune? (oo na, ako lang ang di nakakaalam nito!)
a way to cure cramps is to put saliva on it? (sabi ni Ate Yen, ang aming bibong kasambahay)
you can use the content of the Vitamin E capsule as anti-acne and is effective when spread on one's face?
there is no possible way that you can lick your elbow?

the Gutter Girl Strikes Back
Me: Queer, wer u na?
Queer (using Mamba's fon): Punta ka Alumni Center. d2 kami, nagbibilliards.
Me: kayong 2 lang?
Mamba: yup. sunod ka now na.

The bowling alley in UP is quite a memorable place for me. It reminds me of my block during the time when we were still close. When Tubby, Flamethrower and I were having out PE, our blockmates would be there, waiting for our class to be finished so that we can eat lunch together. Due to some unfortunate events ( like the affair that divided us all), we drifted apart. kaya i was so moved, i wrote this poem in 5 minutes and saved it in my phone.
Alumni Center
Nostalgia creeps in
with the reverberation of falling pins
and the sound of balls sliding
on the bumpy surface.
Memories stored in an eight lane hourglass;
fading, fading, losing more sand.
With the return of the hard plastic ball
kissing another one,
reverie gone in an instant.
falling, falling
into the pit underground.

The truth and Nothing but...
nakakamiss rin palang ma inlove.
now, where did that come from? (hmm, come to think of it. most of my sesnsible thoughts sprang from randomness)
anyway, i think its high time for me to clear up the rumors (uy! artistahin) that you've been hearing from the grapevine. ahem, what i mean is, i will clear up some of the bangenge things i wrote in my blog.
First: the New Zealand Fantasy
my friend/ boss in Ecosoc, brown sugar, inquired:
"AM, nakarating ka na ng New Zealand?"
i know, i know... you must have assumed that i've been there considering the numerous photos i posted on the site. well, well. Here's the truth and nothing but the truth (so help me God?)
i was born and raised there. Yes, i am a true blue New Zealand...
Cow.
(nyerk, nyerk.. .Corny.. kasi naman, spirito ni GC, layuan mo ako)
duh? ako pa!?! eh the farthest i've been is Baguio. HUWAAAT? (paki nyo ba?)
New Zealand has been the object of my obsession since the contestants of Amazing Race number something went there. i've always been drawn to the idyllic life: fields of green, rolling mountains, lakes and men. (imagine the bodies they have from toiling the fields. yummy...)
Plus, the setting of one of my favorite movies LOTR is in New Zealand.. who can beat that?
okay.. back to reality. So there, its cleared na.. I haven't been in New Zealand, but in the near future, i will be.
second: Where's Dilbert?
what happened to him? haha.. ewan ko. i was actually surprised that many people are asking me, kamusta naman kayo? Kayo na ba? NOT LIKELY! first, his maneuvers are as slick as a sandpaper. everytime he tries to make a move, i'm not really sure if i was just hallucinating or it's the real thing. its like a split second, imperceptible kind of move. second: we kind of share the jake roxas-bernadette allyson passion during growing up days (ha! figure that out!) third, wwech.. mashado nang marami (two reasons are enough to dump a guy).. haha.. i really dont want to enumerate all of them... it's a blast to his ego.
Third: Stuck in a Ditch
hmmm, i guess most people are wondering why thoushallnotbenamed still appears in my blog. you're probably thinking, baka di pa ako nakaka move on, im still in love with him, i'm still waiting for him to come back etc etc.
in all honesty, i can say that i am completely healed from the heartache. Actually, matagal na. I realized that i don't love him in that way when i didn't feel a twinge of pain when he and sushi girl became an item. i guess the only reason i still write about him is to relive the good memories, bring some real emotions in my life. ( i haven't been living the exciting life, until now) wala lang, drama queen lang talaga ako.
Although i have to admit that the relationship (not exactly the person) deteriorated my faith in love, i can still say na its not a hopeless case. Someday, when i finally meet that person truly meant for me, my belief will be restored. i chanced upon a really nice and thought-provoking line in some blog. it read:
"sa mundong ito, may isang pag-ibig na sadyang hindi para sa atin... "
i guess he's talking about that once-in-a-lifetime heartbreak which causes one person to alter his/her opinions on life, love and hope.
Ang galing ano? i'm actually contemplating on this theory of the Duality of Love. The existence of a once-in-a-lifetime love and its counterpart, once-in-a-lifetime heartbreak. Hmmm, is that mutually exclusive? i'm not sure pero im thinking, there's only one great love which can NEVER spring into a one great heart ache. its probably that kind of love na unconditional, no-questions asked, washing-in-his-bath water* kind of love. You'll remember this person not for the pain he caused pero the good memories you've shared.
As for the once-in-a-lifetime heartbreak, i guess we all know what that means.. a love full of regret and questions. The kind that makes you say, "T@(!# nya, if he just loved me better..."
i still don't know where he falls under.. pero judging from my non-hate for him, ... wala..
moral of the story: there's a side to every story... lurking behind the headline (sandwhiched between the classified ads and obituary) lies a banner story waiting to be discovered. wala lang..
* i was reminded of this song by No doubt BATHWATER.. the expression "coz i love to wash in your own bath water" means accepting that person for everything he is.. faults and imperfections included. Ganda noh??? galing ng song na to
now, where did that come from? (hmm, come to think of it. most of my sesnsible thoughts sprang from randomness)

my friend/ boss in Ecosoc, brown sugar, inquired:
Ganda noh??? galing ng song na to

and that's 2004, folks!
i am so done with the Christmas fever, thus, i am reverting back to my old blog template. Whooopee! (for those who just tuned in, my old template was bright apple green...nyiii)
its 2005. In a matter of three (or 4) months, i will be forced out of the Collegiala status and into the Labor Force (hopefully). How did i spend the last day of 2004? lemme see...
woke up at 10 ish in the morning, i think. (can you believe i cant remember? it seems like an entire year ago) stared at my almost-sculpted body for 5 minutes, got dressed, and stared at my almost-sculpted body for another 5 minutes. read some of my thesis materials, read several pocketbooks, and took a shower. waited for the my demented texter and got the message i was waiting for:
"p(@#*@((*@*&a mo.. (cuss word fills the entire message)"
aaaah, my morning is complete.
had lunch, yada yada, boring stuff, watched the entire 4th season of the Simpsons on dvd. received message from demented texter.
"simula mamayang 12 ng gabi, malasin sana kayo buong taon. malasin sana kayo buong taon. "
aaah, my afternoon is complete.
went to my cousin's place, ate dinner, pigged out on mongolian grill ( i dont know how that stir fry food is called kaya bawal mamilosopo), squid ball, fishball, kikiam, chicken bbq, buko pandan and my mom's special leche flan. chika chika with relatives, drank 4 glasses of wine straight from Italy, received message from demented texter.
"turuan sana kayo ng leksyon ni Nostradamus!! turuan sana kayo ng leksyon ni nostradamus! turuan sana kayo ng leksyon ni Nostradamus! P@(*@#(*@#* nyo, magkakasbwat kayo!"
aaaah, my evening is complete.
we went home just about the time my 81 year old lola was shrieking invectives at our insensitive neighbors who threw an i-dont-know-the-name-but-it pops-so-loud firecracker under my uncle's CRV.
an hour before 2005 and i was ready to call it a night. ahem, have i told you i spend several minutes of my day looking at my almost-sculpted body? yeah... no, this is not a severe case of narcissism (well, maybe a slight case). I was just looking at how effective Pilates is in toning my holiday-mood physique. (hello, flabs! merry Christmas to you, too!)
anyway, at 11:45 pm, i started working out and since its a 45-minute workout video, its safe to assume that i will be spending an entire year sculpting my body (that is, if the superstitions were true). everyday for one year??? that's 52 weeks, 365 days. wow, dont look now, but by the end of the year, i just might look like the nth member of Regal Babies, ehrm, Viva hotbabes pala. (or, worse case scenario, arnold schwarzenegger).
i rested for a while, took a shower, prepared my bed, read a book, received a message from demented texter.
"Message cannot be displayed here"
aaah, my year is complete.
Happy New Year, everyone!!!
p.s.
happy birthday to my good friend, Wonder girl. I love you so much!!! aay, also to my barkada, flamethrower, the Dragon Queen.

Play, Pause, Rewind: 2004
Due to an eye-opening exercise in BA 190, i realized that my dream job is to become a food/ music critic. thus, here is my take on the music scene in 2004 (or the latter part of 2004. Duh?! my mp3's got deleted. i cant remember all the music i got hooked on)
Trembling Blue Stars.
a hip band with a catchy name. I chanced upon it while browsing new tunes at Tower records (Thank heavens for sample listening.) It's an indie band loosely resembling the vocal sound of chris carrabba of Dashboard Confessional. Their lyrics are melancholic in nature, divulging emotions of pain and love gone wrong. a Musical haven for the shakespeares at heart.
Orange and Lemons.
This year is a big one for OPM. Great artists have rocketed to stardom in a matter of one song. Artists like Kitchie Nadal, Sponge Cola, Kjwan, Bamboo, Session Road and Sugarfree (still reigning!) will never forget 2004. Even indie bands have made it to mainstream radio. The Brit-sounding Pinoy band Orange and Lemons charmed its way to the hearts of Filipino listeners. Its first release, Just like a Splendid Love Song, was able to send kilig signals to the inlove and wanting to be inlove generation. Kailangan Kita is also a noteworthy pick in their album, with smile-inducing lyrics and the ridiculously endearing accent of the vocalist. Too bad the album Love in the land of Rubber Shoes and Dirty Ice Cream (I love the title) is a bit overpriced for an OPM, not too mention the not so attractive packaging.
The OC OST.
A british invasion is another remarkable fad this year. Brit (or Aussie) accent plus glam/ 80's rock equals sure fire hit. the Darkness, Franz Ferdinand, the Killers, and Aussie Band Jet have songs coming in and out of our ears this year. with rippling guitar maneuvers, their songs are great getaways from the formula-laden offerings of Britney, Lindsay and Avril. Even the famous cable show the OC (my favorite), incorporated these songs in its soundtrack. the second album i purchased ( but the first one i bought with my own money), the OC 1st mix proves to be more than just a compilation album. Featuring songs from Phantom Planet, Jet, South, Jem and other artists, the album is a mixture of juvenile freedom, premature love and adoloscent drama. I particularly love the song Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch because of the heart-wrenching lyrics (in your love, my salvation lies) and guitar-strumming performance. It bears all the qualities of the series. Honest, poignant, gripping and depressingly beautiful.
other favorites: Ashlee Simpson ( despite her lip-snyching scandal, she exudes youthful rebellion and depth), Ryan Cabrera ( emo-punk looking, cute guy singing sensible and sweet alt rock songs), Sugarfree (still the best), Punk-ska (SAve Ferris' Come on Eileen and I Know, GOldfinger's More today than Yesterday), emo (Dashboard Confessional, SUgarcult, yellowcard and Taking Back SUnday) and the rediscovery of old artists ( JOni Mitchell's a Case of You and Both Sides Now and Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye and Hallelujah), Portishead's Glory box, Cibo Matto's moonchild, Jann Arden's Wishing That.
