Tubby's birthday was just like any other gimmick we've had, extremely fun and hilarious. Made me realize how much i miss them. No matter how many friends I gain at the office, nobody understands me like they do... No one can laugh the hardest at my jokes and wowowee inspired cheers. No one can absorb all my ka krung krungan and contradictions like they do.. grabe.. motmot.
Anyway, the story.
i called Tubby up last Monday because I happened to see a really nice skirt at the mall and i was looking for an event to wear it... i called her up and found out that she was at the gym.. hahaha. ang funny. I asked her if we have a get together on her birthday and she said she'll organize one. Anyways, i didnt buy the skirt, FYI. good decision because the gimmick was entirely Un-Skirt-able.
Friday.
The Bratinella in me took over as i asked Mamba to pick me up at work. The gang was supposed to meet up at 6pm at starbucks glorietta and knowing Tubby, we decided to loaf first since we know Tubby's gonna be late (most especially that day, her bday thingie when she'll know she'll be forgiven). I decided to buy her a gift,a huge pink slippers (pang barko!)and since its not really birthday-ish to give slippers in plastic, i bought a simple green paper bag at National, which Flamethrower, the evil person that she is, would later on, steal from Tubby.
I texted Queer and asked what time he'll be there and told me he's not coming because its Friday the 13th and he cant miss watching Mga Anghel na Walang Langit. Knowing how much of a Pop Culturist he is, i believed him... which i shouldnt have... grrr...
7pm, Starbucks.
the two Corpo chicks (Mamba and me) strutted our stuff at Starbucks, only to find out that were the first people there. I called Tubby and discovered that she had just gotten inside the cab (for i heard, Manong, glorietta po). Great, late again. As expected. She told us though, that Dishwalla and Queer and his friend were there already.
We knew where to find Queer and we were right. we found him and Jomer smack in the middle of a bunch of guys, playing tekken at Timezone. When Flamethrower called up to ask where we were, we decided to leave the noisy, boy and men infested arcade. Soon, Dishwalla's tall frame appeared before us and we chatted for the next hour. Queer bought Tubby two kinky undies from Top Shop and since Flamethrower didnt buy any gift, she decided to do the "mukhang mabait" act.
Tubby arrived at 8pm, two hours past the call time... WHat were we expecting? a miracle? she would never turn up on time. Because of her uber lateness, we decided not to watch a movie and have dinner instead. After 30 minutes of Greenbelt-ing, we decided to just go to the Fort, drink and be merry. We had a hard time getting a cab and who wouldnt? we were hailing a cab in a No lOading/ Unloading zone. What are the chances?
9 pm, Pier one.
There was a line when we got there. Since we were in a good mood,it was fine to wait for 30 minutes and did a lot of catching up to fill the time. When it was finally our turn, we were placed at the rooftop... and guess what? mamba is petrified of heights... so we asked to be transferred elsewhere... we were told to line up again... imagine, we were hungry and have a friend who was turning white with fear... Our moods were turning sour every second. We decided to go down since we love Mamba and it started drizzling.
We had to wait for another 30 minutes or so before we were able to get our seats. We were in a really foul mood. We were stressing the waiters/sailors/popeye look alikes and they were becoming rude too. I played mother and ordered the food. thank God we know how to have fun. Food has a way of calming all of us. And boy, were we hungry. we were able to finish all the food in less than 15 minutes, seriously.
We had a lot of laughs especially when Queer and his friend made kwento about their Puerto Galera experience. Note: Do not trust any resort named South of the Border. I dont think anyone would, It's a very telling name.
I tried to take pictures during the gimmick pero it was too dark to even see them. grrr... sayang. We were laughing our hearts out as we talked about wowowee and Queer did an impersonation of Sailor moon characters. Everyone was having a great time (especially after we ordered a barrel of beer, hic!).
1 am.
I was uber tired because i got up at 5 am and i had a toxic day at the office (plus, it was the opening of the ofice sportsfest which i eventually didnt attend because i was battered tired) so i told them i wanted to go home. Again, what are the chances that right after asking for the bill, it started raining really hard... as in with matching thunder and lightning? APparently, huge.
We decided to have coffee instead so we got inside the bar part of the PIer one. We felt kinda Matronic as we sipped our coffee... We were doing a Lola impression, with matching looking at everyone nursing a drink, shaking our heads and muttering, Iba na talaga ang mga bata ngayon...
we fought the urge to dance inside so we satisfied ourselves with the demure dance and singing backup, Snoop dogg style to the songs.
3am.
Time to go home. We walked past the parking lot, arguing over who will be the designated driver this time, realizing shortly that nobody among us has a car. tsk, tsk, carnapped again? hehehe.
We hailed a cab at the totally deserted, palayan part of the Fort and we were surprised that we actually got a cab. After bidding Goodbye to Tubby the birthday girl and her friend Jason, we shared a cab (not to mention good memories) home.
the end.
